„"Back to the roots" is the motto of our podcast for Esport Connect. With this format, we're returning to the early days of our Esport-Talk podcasts, recorded exclusively for you in audio format. Our main goal is to shed light on the business side of esports. In our first episode, we're delighted to welcome a regular guest from Esport-Talk: Martin Müller, founder of Magdeburg eSports eV, who will be sharing insights into his club.
How do I start my own esports club?
What might initially sound daunting and like a lot of paperwork is actually quite simple. Martin founded his club with just ten members, inspired by the esports club in Leipzig. All that's needed is a constitution and an inaugural meeting, and then you can register your club with a court. Of course, if you want to be absolutely certain, you can also hire a notary.
And how much does the fun cost?
The club's founding cost just €150. Theoretically, this means that clubs dedicated to esports could be established all over Germany. Members would pay a small monthly fee, which covers equipment and clubhouse costs. Martin has also established good connections with local businesses to further support the club.
A club for a good cause
Although esports clubs are not yet officially recognized as non-profit organizations, projects like the Magdeburg Esports Club hold a prominent position within the scene. They bring together gamers from diverse backgrounds and integrate gaming into real life. Furthermore, they foster a sense of belonging to local players, which benefits the scene as a whole. Several teams already compete under the club's banner, and they have recently achieved initial success at tournaments.
